Letter From the Editor
Nowadays we are facing the world’s first “polycrisis”. Inflation. Economic downturn. War in Europe. The energy crisis. Post pandemic aftermath. Climate crisis. Technology and supply chain disruptions. It’s hardly surprising that we often hear the challenges facing today’s businesses described as “unprecedented” or even “unique”. Arguably, analogous crises have occurred previously. However, what sets the present crises apart is the confluence of two critical factors, pushing all businesses into genuinely unexplored terrain. Firstly, the contemporary crises are impacting enterprises concurrently, unlike the analogous crises of the past, such as the First World War, the Spanish flu, or the Great Depression, which unfolded sequentially rather than simultaneously. So this time you can’t pull them apart and tackle them separately. In other words, they are interwoven, necessitating a holistic approach. Secondly, this juncture diverges from the past due to the crises being spurred and magnified by enduring megatrends.
Thus, in order to anticipate the inherent challenges of the business world, it is imperative that we proactively identify and address these issues. With this in mind, we have outlined six focal areas for the publication year of 2023-2024:
1. Economic Uncertainty
2. Technological Disruption
3. Workforce of the Future
4. Changing Customer Demands
5. Supply Chain
6. Climate Crisis
