The Development of Multicultural Society on Dimensions of Diversity and Cultural Change

Abstract

The Indonesian nation is a strong nation with diverse cultures, ethnicities, races, and religions, which will make Indonesia capable of accommodating this diversity. The library research method was used in this study. According to the findings of this study, a multicultural society is one in which various elements, such as ethnicity, race, religion, education, economy, politics, language, and others, coexist in a group of people who have one government but live within the community. Each of them contains segments that cannot be combined. In Q.S Al Hujurat [49]: 13, the Qur’an also explains the multicultural society. (Many different kinds of humans are created), QS. Hud [11]: 118-119 QS. Al Maidah [5]: 48 (God did not wish to create a single human race). (all created heterogeneous in order to compete for good), QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 256 (religious freedom), QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 62 (reality of religious pluralism), QS. Al-Muntahanah[60]: 8 (being fair between people), QS. Al-Hajj[22]: 40 (protecting places of worship), QS. Al-Kafirun [109]:6 (protecting places of worship), QS. Al-Kafirun [109]:6 (protecting places of worship), QS. Al-Kafirun (Peacefully coexist). A multicultural society is formed by an understanding of multiculturalism that recognizes not only differences, but also the existence of diversity in society. Society is no longer trapped in primordial or sectarian issues that threaten harmony in shared life as a result of the recognition of plurality of identities. Multiculturalism, from a cultural standpoint, multiculturalism considers a society to have a culture whose style is similar to a mosaic, with smaller communities forming a larger society.
