R-W-C-R-R Policy

We recognize the substantial effort authors invest in preparing their manuscripts and uphold a rigorous peer-review process. Nevertheless, there are instances in which published articles may need to be withdrawn or deleted due to specific scientific circumstances. Such decisions are not made lightly and are reserved for exceptional cases. Corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies are managed according to strict standards to maintain trust in the journal’s electronic archives. Our commitment is to preserve the integrity and completeness of crucial scientific records for the benefit of researchers and librarians.

(R) Article Retraction

The Jurnal Kesehatan Islam: Islamic Health Journal is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of scholarly records, and there are occasions when retractions are necessary. Articles may be retracted for reasons including:

  • Significant scientific errors that undermine the article’s conclusions, such as unreliable findings due to misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest mistakes (e.g., miscalculations or experimental errors).
  • Prior publication of the findings elsewhere without appropriate referencing, permission, or justification (redundant publication).
  • Ethical violations, including plagiarism or inappropriate authorship.

To ensure that retractions adhere to best practices and comply with the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), we follow this procedure:

  1. The journal editor is notified of a potential retraction.
  2. The editor follows the COPE guidelines systematically, including seeking a response from the author(s) of the article.
  3. Before any action is taken, the editor presents their findings to the Advisory Editor-in-Chief.
  4. The final decision to retract is communicated to the author(s) and, if necessary, to relevant entities, such as the author's institution.
  5. A retraction notice is published online and in the subsequent available issue of the journal.

If authors retain copyright, they have the right to retract their article post-publication. However, COPE’s Retraction Guidelines continue to apply, as preserving the integrity of the published scientific record is of utmost importance.

(W) Article Withdrawal

Authors may withdraw their manuscripts prior to their inclusion in the final version (galley) of the full issue. A formal written request specifying the reason for withdrawal must be submitted by the author. For example, if an author discovers an error in their published article, they should contact the journal promptly using the contact information available on the journal's website. Typically, the corresponding author notifies the journal of the error. The journal editor or a qualified member of the editorial team will review the correction and any associated details. If necessary, the correction may undergo further review. The editor will then determine how to address the article.

For Articles-in-Press (early versions of accepted articles that have not yet reached their final form), they may be withdrawn before final publication for reasons such as:

  • Containing errors.
  • Being identified as accidental duplicates of other published articles.
  • Violating the journal's publishing policies, including issues of multiple submissions, false authorship claims, plagiarism, or fraudulent data.
  • Being published prematurely due to an editorial or production error.

(C) Article Correction

The journal may issue a correction under certain circumstances:

  • A small but significant error affects a part of an otherwise reliable article, particularly due to an honest mistake.
  • The author or contributor list is incorrect, such as omitting a deserving author or including someone who does not meet authorship criteria.

Corrections are categorized into three types:

  1. Publisher Correction (Erratum): This addresses significant errors caused by the publishing staff that negatively impact the article’s integrity, the authors' reputation, or the journal itself.

  2. Author Correction (Corrigendum): This addresses errors made by the authors that affect the article’s integrity, their reputation, or the journal.

  3. Addendum: This is an addition to the article made by the authors to address inconsistencies, expand on the original work, or update the information in the article.

The decision to issue a correction is made by the journal's editor(s), sometimes with input from reviewers or the editorial board. Handling editors may request clarification from the authors, but the final determination regarding the necessity and type of correction rests with the editors.

(R) Article Removal

In very rare instances, an article may need to be removed from our online platform. This will occur only if the article is clearly defamatory, infringes on legal rights, is subject to a court order, or poses a serious health risk if followed. In such cases, the article’s metadata (e.g., title and author details) will be retained, but the text will be replaced with a notice indicating its removal for legal reasons.

(R) Article Replacement

If an article poses a serious health risk, the authors may opt to retract the original flawed version and replace it with a corrected version. In this scenario, the retraction process will follow the same steps, with the added provision that the retraction notice will link to the corrected version and provide a history of the document.
