Publication Ethic

Journal of Nahdhoh Islamic Studies Aswaja published by the Institute for Islamic Studies
and Student Affairs, Islamic University of Malang
is a peer reviewed journal published biannually
(April and October) follows the guidelines set out by the 
Committee on Publication Ethics

(COPE) and Peraturan Kepala LIPI Nomor 5 Tahun 2014 in all aspects of publication ethics.
This statement clarifies ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing
an article in this journal, including the author, the editor-in-chief, the Editorial Board,
the peer-reviewer, and the publisher.

DUTIES OF AUTHORS

Authors who submit manuscripts to An-Natiq warrant the following aspects:

  • The manuscript reflects original work and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The manuscript does not include derogatory, defamatory or unlawful statements;
  • Authors should appropriately cite and quote any influential publication or work of other authors.

Reporting Standards

A submitted manuscript should be original and the authors ensure that the manuscript has never been published previously in any journal. Data of the research ought to be represented literally in the article. A manuscript ought to include adequate detail and references to allow others to replicate the study.

Originality

The authors who want to submit their study to the journal must ensure that their study entirely original and the words and sentences getting from literature should be appropriately cited. 

Multiple Publications

Authors should not submit the same study for publishing any other journals. Simultaneous submission of the same study to more than one journal is unacceptable and constitutes unethical behavior. Nonetheless, it is acceptable for research to be repeated if it leads to different and new analyses, perspectives or comparisons with existing data.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. 

Authorship of a Paper

Authorship of a paper ought to be limited to those who have made a noteworthy contribution to study. If there are others who have participated process of the research, they should be listed as contributors. Authorship also includes a corresponding author who is in communication with editor of a journal. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included on a paper.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All sources of financial support should be disclosed. All authors ought to disclose a meaningful conflict of interest in the process of forming their study.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

DUTIES OF EDITORS

In general, the editors will provide assistance to authors and readers in order to improve the journal’s content and should be responsible for everything published article in An-Natiq. Therefore, the editors will pay particular attention to handle potential breaches of intellectual property laws and conventions.

Publication Decisions

The editors are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published based on the content of the article and its connection to the journal’s aim and scope. The Editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision. Moreover, once a paper is accepted and published, that particular publication cannot be retracted, unless it constitutes plagiarism or he findings are unreliable, redundant or false. Equality (Fairness)

The editors will at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editors and any editorial staff will not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate. The identity of the authors and of the reviewers will be confidential.

DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper. 

Promptness

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. 

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

DUTIES OF PUBLISHER

In general, the main duties of the publisher is to preserve the copyright the Authors and the intellectual property published in the associated journals, respect the privacy and independence of editorial process.
