THE INFLUENCE OF SECULARISM ON THE PROHIBITION OF POLYGAMY IN TURKEY

This research discusses the background that influenced the Polygamy Law in the Turkish State which was originally allowed and finally enacted a law on the prohibition of polygamy in the Turkish State, In this study, the research method used qualitative-descriptive. This type of research uses library research. While the research approach uses juridical-normative research. This research requires two ways of data collection techniques, namely documentation and literature study. The results of this study are After the 1917 Law was no longer used, the polygamy regulations that were originally allowed under certain conditions became absolutely not allowed after the birth of the Turkish Civil Law under the rule of Mustafa Kemal who brought and spread secularism. it can be concluded that Kemalism has a great influence on the government in the Turkish state, as well as on the laws in the Turkish state, especially the laws on polygamy. By using extra doctrinal reform, Turkey strictly prohibited the practice of polygamy. Turkey was created as the first example for other countries that did not allow polygamy
